10G Ethernet

So-Logic's solution to the 10 Gbit/s Ethernet consists from the following cores:

  • 10 Gbit/s Ethernet MAC Controller Core, implementing Media Access Control sublayer,
  • 10GBase-R PCS Core, implementing 10GBase-R PCS/PMA sublayer.
  • 10G Ethernet MAC Configurator Core, implementing configurator for 10G MAC controller core.

Using these cores from So-Logic, user can easily and quickly build a complete 10 Gbit/s Ethernet solution.

10 Gbit/s MAC Controller Core is used to encapsulate user payload into Ethernet frames. It implements MAC and MAC flow control layers as defined in the Std. 802.3-2008 specification. 10 Gbit/s MAC Controller core uses standard XGMII-SDR interface to connect to the lower level Ethernet PCS/PMA core, and AXI-Lite and AXI-Stream protocols to connect to the user logic.

10GBase-R PCS Core transforms the input TX XGMII frame to the physical TX signals and the physical RX signals to the RX XGMII frame. It implements the IEEE 802.3-2008 Ethernet specification, clause 49. This core can be used to connect to the majority of SFP+ 10G Ethernet Phy transceiver modules, allowing data communication over optical fiber medium.

10G Ethernet MAC Configurator Core can be used to define desired configuration and loaded into So-Logic's 10G MAC Controller core. 10G Ethernet MAC Configurator core also automatically gathers statistics about 10G MAC RX and TX data streams and output it in demultiplexed format to the surrounding logic.
